Music producer and turntable hotshot, Florence Otedola otherwise known as DJ Cuppy has announced a partnership deal with London-based music creative agency, Platoon. She also announced the launch of her debut album “Original Copy”
Cuppy disclosed this after a meeting which held remotely without physical presence and had the attendance of Denzyl Feigelson, CEO and co-founder of Platoon; Lucie Watson, Music Person and Director at Platoon and other witnesses, who welcomed the music spin doctor to Platoon team while commending the huge effort she expended in coming up with her album.
Since making her debut in 2013, Cuppy’s rise from disc jockeying to producing music has been an example of hard work and absolute commitment. It is then glaring about how she has been scouted by Platoon to oversee the launch of her debut album which she masterminded under her control and set to be released in due time.
Platoon is a London-based creative services firm founded in 2016 by Denzyl Feigelson, Ben Grabiner and Saul Klein. The outfit works primarily with emerging musicial artists and other other creators like writers, filmmakers, to produce distribute and sell their works. It also sources talents and figures out the best way to market their content.
The small tech startup was responsible for bringing many artistes who have now signed up with Global Music label to spotlight, notable breakout are Billie Eilish before she signed to Interscope in 2017, UK singers Stefflon Don who has signed with Universal, Jorja Smith who joined Sony and Nigerian artist Mr Eazi.
Platoon was acquired by Apple Inc. in 2018 and the modern-day tech equivalent of A&R services was integrated into one it arm, Apple Music to further develop it. Apple announced a global expansion of its markets in April with 25 targets in Africa which has seen Cuppy being entangled in the business.
Reacting to the partnership deal, an elated Cuppy who was recently announced as the new host of Africa Now on Apple Music termed the moment as the best thing of all time and also emphasised on the relevance and value the deal has added to her musical career.
“Signing with Platoon has been one of the proudest moment I think of my career because Platoon being my partner for music has now literally made me feel like I’ve cemented a position as an artist. Which makes me responsible to create. I feel very special and honored.”
Cuppy who is yet to disclose the exact date of her album launch has hinted that the release date has been set but it is believed that with her new partnership deal, the current quarter of the year is a feasible time frame.
