Flutterwave has secured a strategic investment from Circle Ventures to accelerate cross-border payments and power the next era of global money movement from Africa.
The investment came in at a period of $3.25 billion valuation for Flutterwave.
The move shows rising investors’ interest in African payments infrastructure, and redefines how Nigerian businesses transact across borders.
The benefits of this transaction are enormous and cuts across industries. Flutterwave’s expansion of USDC settlement across its payments platform will be boosted. It will further help businesses to receive payments in local currencies and settle their transactions in a dollar-backed stablecoin.
For exporters, technology companies and businesses trading internationally, the transaction will facilitate faster settlement, lower transaction costs and access to cross-border payments that are not limited by traditional banking hours.
For many Nigerian businesses looking beyond domestic markets, cross-border payments remain a critical competitive advantage for them.
Although delays in settlement, high transfer costs and foreign exchange constraints continue to weigh on businesses operating across multiple markets.
However, by integrating stablecoin settlement into existing payment infrastructure, Flutterwave is positioning itself to offer businesses an additional way to move capital internationally while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, said the investment reflects broader shift in global finance architecture.
He said:“This support from Circle Ventures is about backing the rails that will power the next era of global money movement from Africa. Stablecoins like USDC are no longer an experiment; they are becoming core financial infrastructure. By embedding USDC settlement into our existing payments infrastructure, we are building a system that lets businesses move money at the speed of the internet.”
Circle Ventures’ investment started during Flutterwave’s participation in the launch of the Circle Payments Network in 2025.
The move continues to expand collaboration between the two companies as stablecoins gain traction as an alternative settlement layer for international commerce.
Industry statistics show stablecoin circulation has exceeded $300 billion globally, with Africa among the fastest-growing adoption markets.
More businesses are also deploying dollar-backed digital assets in settling international transactions more efficiently. They are further reducing the costs and delays associated with conventional correspondent banking networks.
For Flutterwave, the deal marks another step in its evolution from a payment gateway into a broader financial infrastructure provider.
Founded in Nigeria in 2016, the company has processed over one billion transactions worth over $50 billion and continues to provide payment infrastructure to businesses operating across 34 African countries.
Uber alongside African businesses including Air Peace, Bamboo and PiggyVest are some of its expanding clientele base.
Aside payment receipts, Flutterwave has expanded into remittances through Send App, enterprise payouts and cross-border collections, reflecting growing demand from businesses seeking a single platform to manage payments across multiple African markets.
The Circle Ventures’ investment also reinforces Nigeria’s position as Africa’s leading fintech ecosystem. As global investors increasingly back companies building the infrastructure underpinning digital commerce, Nigerian firms are emerging not only as technology innovators but as providers of the financial rails connecting Africa to the global economy.
For businesses, the significance extends beyond Flutterwave itself. Faster settlement, greater access to digital dollars and more efficient cross-border payments could help Nigerian exporters, manufacturers, technology companies and SMEs compete more effectively in international markets, where the speed and cost of moving money increasingly influence commercial success.
