Napoli sign Osimhen in club-record transfer deal

The most contemplated transfer deal in July has finally attained a wind-up. Victor Osimhen, Lille OSC young prolific striker, has officially joined SSC Napoli after weeks of speculation, the Italian club announced on Friday.

The 21-year-old Nigerian joins the powerful, Naples based club for a club-record transfer fee of €50 million plus €10 million add-ons which the club had to pay to snatch the player.

Osimhen transfer fee has now shattered the amount Napoli paid for Gonzalo Higuain (€39m) to become the most expensive player signed in history of the club

The Nigeria International who is now the all-time player signed with the highest transfer fee inked a 5-year contract to establish commitment in staying at Stadio San Paolo until June 2025.

In a statement released on Napoli official website, the club said: “SSC Napoli are delighted to announce the signing of Victor Osimhen from Lille on a permanent transfer.”

Gifted with superb finishing touch of scoring goals, Osimhen was clinical for Lille during 2019/20 campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing 6 assists in 38 games and was named the club player of the season and also won the Marc-Vivien Award for the year 2020.

Osimhen started his career at Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg after breaking out at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015 before moving to Belgian club Charleroi, scoring 20 goals and winning player of the year award in 2019.
